If you’re a Game of Thrones fan, you’ll know that phrase as the motto of House Stark. It stands as a reminder of the importance of constant vigilance and preparedness. For Djs, wedding photographers, caters, party planners, and others in the industry it has an entirely different meaning…(well sort of)
In Season!
It means that things are getting ready to heat up as we roll into the winter months and Q4 of 2018, mostly because the flood gates open up for both end of the year weddings and private holiday parties.
So what does that mean for you? Are you considering an end of the year event, holiday party, new years eve party, birthday party, christmas party, etc between now and December 31st, 2018?
If the answer is yes, then whether you’re deciding on a DJ or other forms of live entertainment, it’s time for you to get a move on with booking!
A few key facts to keep in mind around booking events for the holidays
1. Most dates book quickly, especially in the months of October – December.
For myself personally, I get calls for Homecomings, Retail events , Fashion shows, Weddings, Private Events and Corporate Events around these dates. And bookings always work on a first come – first serve basis. Once I’m under contract for an event, I won’t be bumping it to take a different event, no matter how much the pay! If you’ve got your heart set on a particular DJ or live act, the lesson here is BOOK EARLY!
2. Expect “Surge Prices” around “In-Season” dates.
We all understand how “Surge Pricing” works with Uber. It’s all about supply and demand. Because there’s such a high demand around In Season dates, when booking, you can expect prices to be high. Example: You will absolutely not get your DJ on a random August and your DJ for New Years Eve at the same price. Some acts are known to as much as 3x rates around key dates.
3. Many companies offer coupons or discounts for early booking.
Because summer months are notoriously slow in the industry, many entertainment companies offer the most competitive prices, coupons, and discounts for contracts signed around these times. Keep in mind that your event doesn’t have to be in the summer. But if you book the event in advance, chances are you’ll get the most competitive rates.
So what’s the take away here? Winter is Coming. And you don’t want to get stuck with a sucker DJ because the one you wanted was already booked. So as soon as you’ve determined that you’re having a party, find an entertainment act that you like, and Bend the Knee.
